Ivanka Trump using feminism to cover for her father’s bigotry is reprehensible

Ivanka Trump and Kellyanne Conway sure are working hard to convince us that the president isn’t a misogynist. While Conway tweets about Trump’s commitment to “women’s health” and covers for his bigotry on the cable news circuit, the first daughter continues her mission to present the softer side of a man whose best-known quote on gender involves “grabbing pussies.”

Texas Lawmakers Advance Bill That Would Allow Doctors to Lie to Pregnant Women

This morning, the Texas Senate Committee on State Affairs unanimously passed a bill on to the full Senate that would let the government decide what a pregnant woman deserves to know about the health of her unborn child.

Committee members, it appears, believe it should be up to the doctor to decide if a pregnant woman should know she’s carrying a fetus with severe disabilities — especially if the doctor suspects she’ll have an abortion if she finds out. If passed, the law would make it impossible for Texans to sue a doctor for intentionally withholding this kind of information about a fetus’ health.

Calling for smarter approaches to violence, offending that address underlying causes of crime

Family violence is both a cause and a consequence of imprisonment. Our women are at the epicentre of the national family violence crisis. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women are currently 34 times more likely to be hospitalised as a result of family violence than non-Indigenous women and 10 times more likely to be killed as a result of violent assault.

At the same time, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women also represent the fastest growing prison population in Australia and it is estimated that around 90 percent of our women in prison have previously been a victim/survivor of family violence.

Male Violence Is The Worst Problem In The World

It is everyday terrorism against women, but it is not recognised as such because the targets are women, and the perpetrators are the very people who claim to love us. While many of us have been directly harmed by male violence, the threat alone is enough to keep women as a class in a state of fear, controlled, pliable.

Returning to work after a baby: The worst thing for women is the best for men

That is, when a woman becomes a mother it holds her career back. It automatically renders her a less valuable employee in the eyes of those who work with her. However when a man becomes a father this new-found responsibility actually works in his favour at the office.

The motherhood penalty has been proven again and again but more recently researchers have also noted a fatherhood bump.
