So, you’ve noticed that there’s something wrong with Gender Ideology… – Wakelet

A list of first steps (articles, podcasts, films, threads) for exploring gender ideology and the impact it’s having on society (from many different angles) – with thanks to the fine people of Twitter, who sent me their suggestions (and credit to @TatsuyaIshida9 for the image above).

New Liberals, ex-prosecutors assemble legal team to launch private criminal case against Christian Porter – Lawyers Weekly

The New Liberals leader and barrister Victor Kline has announced that members of the political party will work alongside an experienced criminal barrister in launching a private legal case against Christian Porter on behalf of the alleged rape victim and for “every single woman whom ‘the Honourable’ swinging dicks have humiliated”.

After reading the newly publicly available dossier detailing historic rape allegations against the former attorney-general, Victor Kline and party member for Robertson, Vania Holt, have announced that they have launched a private legal case. Both have extensive experience in this space, having left prosecutor roles in favour of politics.

An inquiry committee has unanimously agreed to criminalise coercive control in NSW, in a massive step for victims of domestic violence.

Beware moves to shut down ‘harmful’ debates

A coal mining executive, a physicist and a feminist philosophy lecturer might seem strange bedfellows but together they have reignited a long-simmering debate about the boundaries of free speech and tolerance in our universities.

Melbourne University has also tried to address this. In March it redrafted its freedom of speech policy in the interests of “promoting critical and free inquiry”. However, possibly prompted by an increasingly ugly dispute between feminist lecturer Holly Lawford-Smith and transgender activists, the 168-year-old institution is now considering implementing a caveat on that policy: a “gender affirmation” clause that would prevent its academics engaging in public discourse that has the potential to cause “harm” to transgender and gender-diverse members of the university community.

Vice-chancellor Duncan Maskell told staff earlier this month: “Emotional distress and anguish caused to transgender people by inappropriate words being spoken and written is very real and it is the responsibility of all of us not to add to this burden.”

We would not wish emotional distress and anguish on anybody, least of all those members of the community who have daily struggles with prejudice and discrimination. But a university must also insist on the ability of well-educated, intelligent adult students to conduct open conversations without unduly hemming in the broad sweep of ideas and inquiry, however controversial.

It’s sometimes said we should learn to disagree better, on social media, in our daily lives and on campus, because debate moves knowledge forward. The alternative is putting some ideas and discussions off limits, the opposite of a university’s purpose.

Sydney Council Votes Against Support for Women — Critical Thinking In a Passive World

On June 28th 2021, during an online Council meeting, the City of Sydney Council voted unanimously to end the Accommodation Grant that the Feminist Legal Clinic (FLC) in Sydney has been the deserving recipient of for years. In one collective swoop of raised hands the Sydney Council proudly continued their campaign against a well-respected and much-needed women’s rights service provider. This grant was in the form of tenancy; a space where the FLC based their important services & support and met with clients, which are often women experiencing male violence (domestic violence).

To show your support for the Feminist Legal Clinic, sign the open letter from Women’s Human Rights Campaign, and please consider contacting the Sydney Council.
