Dad tells neighbour he set fire to girl because she ‘was too beautiful’, court told

Ms Forrester said Mr Herbert told his neighbour they were his children so he could do whatever he wanted and said his toddler was too beautiful and that is why he burnt her.

When another woman left the house with Mr Herbet’s son, he allegedly said “don’t worry, I would not have lit my boy up”.

Why domestic violence will rule for as long as pornography exists

International studies also found that boys exposed to pornography are more likely to engage in sexual harassment with a 2011 US study finding that “adolescents who are intentionally exposed to violent sexually explicit material were six times more likely to be sexually aggressive than those who were not exposed.”Another study also found exposure to pornography is “associated with greater acceptance of stereotyped and sexist notions about gender and sexual roles, including notions of women as sexual objects.”

The sorry & shameful tales three newspaper front pages tell us today.

The Age in Melbourne carries a front page exclusive interview with a girl, who was allegedly raped in Geelong by three men at the age of 14 . . . Charges against the three perpetrators were dropped earlier this year because the criminal trial was too distressing for the victim

The Daily Telegraph in Sydney has the shameful story of a 15 year old school boy who faced court yesterday for filming his friend raping a 15 year old girl three weeks ago. The footage was distributed to at least 50 students.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports on a senior Westpac executive who is facing allegations of sexual misconduct. It is reported that the behaviour being investigated includes taunting a female employee for being fat and unwanted physical contact.

Three different stories paint a sorry and shameful tale. Men – and boys – behaving badly. Criminally.

Violating the girls and women in their vicinity and – in effect – getting away with it.

Five Women Killed Every Hour – Why We Need to Speak Out on Domestic Violence

Five women are killed every hour by a partner or family member globally, according to new figures released by ActionAid ahead of International Women’s day tomorrow.

[D]omestic violence threatens the lives of women every day and the awful reality is that globally the killing of women by their partners or family members is so common that it rarely makes headlines.

Identity is the issue of our age: so why can’t we talk more honestly about trans women?

Lifelong feminists, especially older ones, who express any reservations about eliding the experiences of trans and cis women are dismissed as bigoted ol’ bitches – and maybe some are. But there are real ethical issues here, and they overwhelmingly affect women.

Sport is one obvious example. Male-born bodies have had different testosterone levels and muscle distribution from female ones. No one knows what the solution is but pretending there isn’t a difference is ridiculous. Then there are prisons. It’s easy to cheer on Chelsea Manning, but Ian Huntley – who now reportedly wishes to be known as Lian Huntley and be transferred to a women’s prison – is a tougher sell. Should a man with a history of crimes against women and girls really be in a female prison?

In January, it was reported that the British Medical Association advised that instead of referring to “expectant mothers”, health providers should talk about the less exclusionary “pregnant people”. Some young feminists are even asking if it’s OK to use the words “female” and “woman” – yet men are not being urged to avoid mentioning their gender. Is it any wonder some women are calling bullshit?

The XX Factor

Unfortunately for women, the necessity of taking account of biological sex differences in early-stage pharmaceutical research has routinely been neglected, avoided, and rationalized away.

Only in the last 15 to 20 years has overwhelming evidence been amassed to show that sex differences, both large and small, exist at every level of analysis in the human animal.

The discovery of sex differences in the human brain and nervous system should not be seen as a blow to gender equality. Men are not the “gold standard” version of the human species, and women should not be viewed as a deviation from the norm.

Offensive Slogans On Wicked Campers Vans Could Soon Be A Thing Of The Past

Last night Queensland’s parliament passed a bill allowing the state’s transport department to cancel a vehicle’s registration if its owners do not remove offending slogans within two weeks of being directed to do so by the Advertising Standards Bureau.

Today NSW Greens MP Dr Mehreen Faruqi announced she will also introduce a bill to ban sexist, obscene and offensive slogans from being displayed on vehicles.

How Australia missed the point about stay-at-home mums being a drain on the economy

According to the World Economic Forum Global Gender Gap Report published in October 2016, Australia fell from 15 in 2006 to number 46 in 2016. Australian women’s low workforce participation rates were cited as one of the key drivers behind Australia’s dramatic slip in just ten years.

The government’s omnibus savings bill is still on the table, though it is unlikely to pass. It proposes significant changes to parental leave and childcare subsidies, all in the name of making it ‘fairer’. The whole plan, frankly, is pants.

The changes aren’t radical enough and go nowhere near addressing the barriers to high quality affordable childcare and parental leave that keep mums out of work. Australia’s Sex Discrimination Commissioner Kate Jenkins said so in remarks to a recent Senate inquiry on the bill. And on that basis the Human Rights Commission rejected it.

Vibrator maker ordered to pay out C$4m for tracking users’ sexual activity

Sex toy maker We-Vibe has agreed to pay customers up to C$10,000 (£6,120) each after shipping a “smart vibrator” which tracked owners’ use without their knowledge.

The We-Vibe 4 Plus is a £90 bluetooth connected vibrator, which can be controlled through an app.

The app that controls the vibrator is barely secured, allowing anyone within bluetooth range to seize control of the device.

In addition, data is collected and sent back to Standard Innovation, letting the company know about the temperature of the device and the vibration intensity – which, combined, reveal intimate information about the user’s sexual habits.
