Single Sex Prisons WA Media Statement

The Law Reform Commission of Western Australia, following its review of the Equal Opportunity Act (EOA), has recommended “providing anti-discrimination protections to those who are trans, gender-diverse or non-binary without the need for recognition from the Gender Reassignment Board.”

Single Sex Prisons WA is concerned that the McGowan government accepted this recommendation.

If implemented, the recommendation means safeguards will be removed in relation to men identifying as women and being housed with women prisoners. SSPWA believes there will be adverse consequences for the rights, safety and well-being of imprisoned women as a result.

‘The scale is enormous’: How hypermasculinity plus porn hurts teens

Many of the kids who come through Dale Tolliday’s clinic are boys, aged between 10 and 13. They often have two things in common: they watch porn, and they have a hypermasculine father who denigrates, abuses and, in some cases, physically harms their mother.

When they see men mistreating women sexually on screen, and have no counterbalance in real life, they think that’s the way relationships work.

Tolliday leads a government-run clinic, New Street Services, that treats 10- to 17-year-olds who display problematic, harmful sexual behaviours. There are around 1000 confirmed reports of so-called PHSB in NSW each year, and he believes that is the tip of the iceberg. “The scale is enormous,” he said.

It happens in schools, in social settings and in homes. Occasionally, it gets to court. Earlier this year, a boy was found guilty of choking his high school girlfriend. This week, a court heard about a consensual encounter between two 16-year-old schoolmates that turned into a protracted rape, which also involved choking.

Choking is commonplace; intentionally choking without consent became an offence in 2018. Between 2019 and 2021, the number of charges grew from 560 to 1200, Bureau of Crime Statistics and Reporting statistics show.

DAN WOOTTON: The intolerant left belittles the death threats against JK Rowling at its peril | Daily Mail Online

There should have been only one response from the literary world when JK Rowling was threatened with death by a terrorist supporter after tweeting her support for Sir Salman Rushdie: Unity against such obviously dangerous criminal behaviour.

The death threat against Rowling came in a reply to her tweet after learning of Rushdie’s stabbing on Friday at the Chautauqua Institution in New York state where she posted: ‘Horrifying news. Feeling very sick right now. Let him be ok.’

The Iran-supporting Islamic extremist Meer Asif Aziz, a political activist and student based in Karachi, Pakistan responded with the chilling reply: ‘Don’t worry you are next.’

Aziz also described Rushdie’s alleged attacker Hadi Matar as a ‘revolutionary Shia fighter’.

Astonishingly, after making a formal complaint, Rowling even received an email from the social media platform that read: ‘After reviewing the available information, we determined that there were no violations of the Twitter rules in the content you reported.’

It took Rowling to post a screenshot of that response juxtaposed with Twitter’s own guidelines, which clearly state violence cannot be threatened against individuals or groups and terrorism cannot be promoted, for action to be taken.

The irony is, of course, that if you go against the woke orthodoxy of the US tech giants you can be banned in a flash.

Mary Catherine Starr is an artist, mother and yoga teacher. She has built a following of over 225,000 people on Instagram through comic-book style illustrations that depict married life and motherhood.

Last week however, Starr began receiving abuse and death threats after some of her comics found a new audience on Twitter.

Many of her pretty illustrations have been widely shared on all corners of the internet and according to the Know Your Meme website, her most popular post to date from January 2022 depicts a dad buying fast food and being labelled as a ‘fun dad’, versus a mum labelled as a ‘lazy mum’.

Suicide rate among female defence veterans double the general population, says Australian Institute of Health and Welfare report released in Canberra

The suicide rate of female Australian Defence Force veterans is more than twice as high as women of their age in the general population.

A report from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare released on Friday, which is the first to include suicide information for ex-serving women, found that between 2001 and 2017, 21 women who had been in the armed forces during that period took their own lives.

Among serving men in the defence force, the report found suicide rates were about 50 per cent lower than in the general population but ex-serving men, which does not include those in the reserves, had an 18 per cent higher suicide rate and ex-serving women had a 115 per cent higher rate.

Professor Megan Mackenzie, from the University of Sydney, said women in the United States armed forces also struggled with elevated suicide rates.

She said women who had served in the armed forces faced the risk of sexual assault and were sometimes made to feel invisible when they returned to civilian life.

Breonna Taylor: 4 police officers have been charged.

It has been over two years since police woke Breonna Taylor and her partner by ramming down their front door, shortly before 1am on March 13, 2020.

Within minutes of them entering her home that night, 26-year-old Breonna was dead.

For two years, activists, protestors and Breonna’s family have called for the police officers involved in the incident – Joshua Jaynes, Kyle Meany, Brett Hankison and Kelly Goodlet – to be arrested.

At the time of her death, Breonna was in a relationship with Kenneth Walker. When police stormed their home, Walker used his registered gun and fired it at the door. He thought intruders were breaking in, as the police’s raid was a “no-knock” encounter, meaning they stormed in full force. Walker later had an attempted murder charge against him dropped after he shot and wounded a police officer’s leg. Walker was cleared of any wrongdoing.

Police shot more than 20 rounds into the home. Kenneth was injured by gunfire, and Breonna was shot eight times by officers before being pronounced dead at the scene.

Neither Breonna nor Kenneth had any criminal background. No drugs were found. The officers involved in the raid were not wearing body cameras.

On May 15 2020, Breonna’s family filed a wrongful death lawsuit. Months later, the city of Louisville agreed to pay US$12 million to her family and institute sweeping police reforms in a settlement.

In August 2022, the four police officers involved were charged for their roles in the botched raid that killed Breonna.

The four now face federal charges including civil rights violations for using excessive force to using false information to obtain the search warrant that authorised the botched raid. They have also been charged with allegedly spawning a conspiracy to falsify the warrant and then cover up the falsification.

[ed: shocking that this has taken so long and that they still do not appear to have been charged with murder. This case seems more outrageous than the George Floyd case but has received a fraction of the attention.]

Spain responsible for obstetric violence – UN women’s rights committee finds | OHCHR

GENEVA (14 July 2022) – A woman in Spain who underwent premature labour induction and a caesarean section without her consent was subjected to obstetric violence, the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) has found.

The Committee published its Views today after reviewing a complaint filed by a Spanish national, N.A.E., who has been suffering lasting physical and mental trauma as a result of her experience during childbirth.

The Committee urged Spain to provide N.A.E. with appropriate reparation for the damage that she has suffered to her physical and psychological health.

The Committee also requested that Spain respect women’s autonomy and ability to make informed decisions about their reproductive health by providing them with complete information at every stage of childbirth and by requiring that their free, prior and informed consent be obtained for any invasive treatment during childbirth.

The experts on women’s rights also requested that Spain provide obstetricians and other health workers with adequate professional training on women’s reproductive health rights. In addition, Spain was also asked to provide specific training for judicial and law enforcement officials, as well as to develop, publicise and implement a charter of patients’ rights.

Strip search class action filed against State of NSW – Lawyers Weekly

Slater and Gordon and Redfern Legal Centre have filed proceedings in the Supreme Court of NSW against the state on behalf of people who were allegedly “invasively and unlawfully searched” by police.

According to a joint statement from the firm and CLC, “group members also allege that some people who were searched – including minors – were directed by police to lift or remove items of clothing, lift their breasts and genitals, or strip naked and squat and cough so officers could visually inspect body cavities. Women were ordered to remove sanitary products so they too could be inspected”.

The strip searches that group members were subjected to, the Statement of Claim notes, were allegedly “conducted in contravention of the Law Enforcement (Powers and Responsibilities) Act 2022 (NSW).

Redfern Legal Centre senior police accountability solicitor Samantha Lee said: “Our investigations show that invasive and unlawful police searches at NSW festivals have become routine, resulting in very few charges, but leaving thousands of young people and minors humiliated and severely traumatised.”

“With this class action, Redfern Legal Centre and Slater and Gordon are seeking compensation and redress for the significant numbers of people believed to have been unlawfully searched,” she said.

“With this class action, Redfern Legal Centre and Slater and Gordon are seeking compensation and redress for the significant numbers of people believed to have been unlawfully searched,” she said.

The firm and CLC will also, Ms Lee went on, look to the courts to make findings that will ensure this “traumatising police practice becomes the exception, not the rule”.

Slater and Gordon Class Actions associate Meg Lessing added that hundreds of people had already registered for the group proceeding, since the firm and CLC announced that a class action was being investigated against police in relation to unlawful searches at Splendour in the Grass music festivals, dating back to 2016.

Raya Meredith, who is the lead plaintiff, was allegedly strip searched by police for 30 minutes at the Splendour in the Grass festival in 2018, an ordeal that found no drugs.

Group members are seeking damages, aggravated damages, exemplary damages, costs and interest.

For those whose searches were “particularly invasive or distressing”, the firm and CLC wrote, damages could be in the order of tens of thousands of dollars.

FRANCE: Trans Activists Destroy Feminist Mural to Infant Victims of Abusive Brain Trauma – Reduxx

Feminists are expressing outrage after a mural created in remembrance of the infant victims of shaken baby syndrome was destroyed by trans activists.

On July 14, the director of the upcoming SBS documentary released a short YouTube video expressing “grief and anger” at what had happened to the collage.

The director then states that her camerawoman was told by the vandals that the collage was created by “transphobic feminists.”

“They didn’t care that this memorial was for the grieving mothers. They don’t care about the memory of those babies who died in excruciating pain … they just ransacked it.”

Désirée expresses frustration with the French mainstream media, noting that few of the violent or destructive acts committed by trans activists in recent months have made it to national news.

‘Transgender’ Serial Killer Who Hates Women Will Soon be Eligible for Parole – Women Are Human

AU — Anakie, Victoria. Thirty years ago, a killer held a suburban town in the grip of terror for seven weeks of summer, causing real estate values to plunge and locals to hide indoors at night. The inmate, who is serving a life sentence for a series of stalking murders targeting women because “I hate them,” will soon have a chance at parole.

Paul Charles Denyer, the third of six children, was born in Sydney, Australia in 1972 to working class British immigrants, and began identifying as a woman named Paula in 2021.
Last year, the inmate filed freedom of information requests inquiring about the Victorian government’s gender reassignment surgery policy for inmates and formally requested an evaluation for gender surgery. His application was denied by medical specialists, and he lost a legal battle seeking permission to buy and wear makeup.
Mr Denyer has been behind bars since his arrest 30 years ago for attacking four random women with a knife, killing three.
Videos of his police interrogation show Mr Denyer laughing when asked, “Were you responsible for the deaths of these women?” After over 1500 questions, the suspect nonchalantly confessed. “Can you explain why we have women victims?” an officer inquired. Mr Denyer replied: “I just hate them.” The officer responded, “I beg your pardon,” to which Mr Denyer reiterated, “I hate them.” The officer asked, “Those particular girls or women in general?” Mr Denyer told the officer, “General.”
