Critical issue: Minister wields special power for first time in Qld history

An extraordinary intervention into the state’s health system by Health Minister Shannon Fentiman will require medical professionals to assist rape victims within 10 minutes of them presenting to hospital or face potential disciplinary action.
Ms Fentiman issued Queensland’s first ever ministerial directive, a power afforded to her under law since 2011, after she was informed in recent days of multiple hospitals failing to provide timely care to a woman who had been allegedly sexually assaulted.
