Feminist campaigner ‘kicked out of Pride for asking safeguarding questions’

Julie Bindel, a gender-critical campaigner and journalist, said four members of security staff told her to leave Pride in Surrey after she interviewed attendees for a podcast.

The event returned on Saturday for the first time since Stephen Ireland, its co-founder, was jailed for 24 years for raping an “extremely vulnerable” 12-year-old boy he met on Grindr..

Whistleblowers raised safeguarding concerns about Pride in Surrey in 2021, before Ireland committed his sex crimes, and before his eventual arrest in 2024.

Following concerns that whistleblowers were ignored, the council severed ties with the Pride organisation this year, saying: “While we continue to wholeheartedly support the LGBTQ+ community in Surrey, there have been concerns raised about Pride in Surrey as an organisation.
