Only 3 per cent of women fleeing family violence receive the long term housing they need

New analysis shows only 3 per cent of women fleeing family violence received long term housing for the 2020 and 2021 financial years.

The Nowhere to Go report highlights that domestic and family violence makes a woman’s home the least safe place she can be and that getting to safety often means finding a new place to live. A lack of affordable housing therefore forces many women to choose between homelessness or returning to their perpetrator and the risk of violence.

  1. Hi, so not exactly family violence related but this has to do with a woman in a bad housing situation. I was browsing the r/sydney subreddit page and there is a woman in a villa complex dealing with a very violent man that her strata and police (guy is in the police system) don’t seem to care about. Her username is u/RichieBenaudOBE. It just seems very unfair that for her safety that she’ll most likely move out of her home (that she has a mortgage on). Is there a better option than waiting for the worst to happen? For her and other women in a similar situation. He’s threatened to rape and kill a different woman in the villa complex. If it’s inappropriate to post this comment that’s fine, I just don’t know what your email is. Thankyou
