Rowan Atkinson says cancel culture is a ‘medieval mob looking for someone to burn’

The star of Blackadder and Mr Bean says online witch hunts are creating a simplistic, binary view of society.

The actor and presenter said he was passionate about free speech, adding: “It defends our liberty, and I’m very unhappy with the idea that, just because someone is offended by what I say, I shouldn’t be allowed to say it.”

  1. If only they were only metaphorically looking for someone to destroy. On the internet “an algorithm decides what we want to see, which ends up creating a simplistic, binary view of … either you’re with us or against us. If you’re against us, you deserve to be ‘cancelled’.” It is truly scary the way so many ignorant parents don’t know how social media works, and that they – as well as their kids – are being manipulated. The emotive hogwash on (garbage) parenting sites (and some trashy Psychology Today type sites) posted by people who often have zero qualifications (but a bottomless pit of opinions) but can set up a Not-For-Profit group – and get government funding to spread their misinformation. The world is seriously unravelling.
