Ms Chandler introduced her private members’ bill – the Sex Discrimination and Other Legislation Amendment (Save Women’s Sport) Bill 2022 – last week amid criticism from advocates for transgender equality.
Ms Chandler said it was a “women’s rights issue” that needed to be addressed.
“The question that everyone should be asking themselves when they’re thinking about this issue and when they’re thinking about whether or not they are going to support my bill is do you agree that Australian women and girls have the right to single-sex sport?” she said.
