Over the Rainbow brings together writers from Australia, the UK, Canada and the US to examine how beliefs about sex and gender have become embedded across politics, medicine, workplaces, sport and the law. Drawing on perspectives from feminism, health, elite sport, law, philosophy and progressive politics, contributors explore the impact of gender ideology on women’s and lesbian rights, free speech and political debate, and what happens when dissenting voices are excluded or silenced. At its heart is a defence of open civic discourse and the right to question ideas that affect our institutions, culture and everyday lives.
Drew Hutton is a co-founder of the Queensland Greens and the Australian Greens, with a long record of activism and writing on peace and non-violence, civil liberties and the environment. Libby Connors is a historian and founding member of the Queensland and Australian Greens who has been active in non-violence, anti-racism, civil liberties and environmental causes for more than four decades. Contributors also include Spinifex Press co-founders Susan Hawthorne and Renate Klein; radical lesbian feminist activist Bronwyn Winter; feminist journalist, broadcaster and author Julie Bindel; US lawyer, author and women’s rights advocate Kara Dansky; journalist Bernard Lane; Anna Kerr, founder and Principal Solicitor of Feminist Legal Clinic; and former Green Party of England and Wales Deputy Leader Shahrar Ali.
