Trans basketball player Lexi Rodgers breaks her silence on bid to join all-female team | Daily Mail Online

The transgender athlete hoping to play in the women’s NBL1 competition has spoken out for the first time and revealed she dreams to play for Australia.

  • Lexi Rodgers has applied to play in the women’s NBL1 competition
  • Rodgers has spoken out publicly for the first time on Wednesday
  • She revealed she hopes to play in the WNBL and for the Opals one day

Rodgers revealed she had first felt feminine tendencies before being a teenager but suppressed the feelings.

However, she said she made the decision to transition during Covid-19, when her mother was diagnosed with a terminal illness and she went through a relationship break-up.

Rodgers’ decision to speak out comes on the same day a Basketball Australia panel met to decide the fate of her application.

Last week, World Athletics banned transgender women who had undergone male puberty from competing in elite female competitions.

It came after the world’s swimming governing body FINA last year banned transgender women who transitioned after the age of 12 from competing in women’s competitions.

  1. What, on earth, is a ‘feminine tendency’?

I played with my sister’s Barbie at age 8. Did I have one? Am I trans?

    I’m just so confused…

  2. I must admit James I have had male tendencies(grin) and I can tell you I feel so strong and powerful in those times and yet I am so glad this crap was not around 63 years ago when I was refusing to wear a top. and climbing trees and playing cops and robbers etc I am a woman who has a yang side sometimes ha ha

  3. Bring back psychiatric assessment- this individual admits the decision to identify as transgender was made as his mother was dying and girlfriend left him during COVID lockdown. First rule when depressed don’t make any major life decisions.

  4. He’s a man.
He has no right to CHEAT by stealthily insinuating himself into a women’s sporting team.
He is conflating the experience of being a woman with the experience of some unfortunate delusional men engaging in behaviour generally associated with women.
    But he is a man.
He will always be, live & die a man.
