AU — Melbourne, Victoria. A man who identifies as a woman was sentenced to three years, three months behind bars after pleading guilty to Assault With Intent To Commit A Sexual Offence and Sexual Assault.
The attacker, aged 44, had served a six-year prison sentence for a prior offense related to the sexual abuse of a six-year-old girl. He later began identifying as a woman named Lisa Jones.
Mr Jones initially denied the crime, but pleaded guilty Tuesday in County Court of Victoria. He blamed the crime on the trauma of having spent six years in a male prison in Germany, where he was living at the time of the sexual abuse of the six-year-old. He was deported to Australia after completing the sentence. According to Mr Jones, the time in solitary confinement exacerbated his mental health issues and struggles with a gender identity he had been suppressing since the age of eight.
