UK — . In recent weeks, two high-profile UK women have been driven out of their jobs for challenging the gender identity narrative. In August, a member of the Labour Party said she was fired from City Hall after raising concerns about males who identify as women accessing women’s rape refuges.Joan Smith, who had served as co-chair of London’s Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) since 2013, said the administration of Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, released her from her duties without consultation after she conveyed to the mayor some concerns charities had shared with her in regards to rape refuges. In written communication to Mayor Khan, Ms Smith had affirmed that “trans women” should have access to the services they need, but female victims of male violence should not have to share safe spaces with “individuals who have male bodies.”More recently, a philosophy professor at the University of Sussex finally quit after having been subjected to “a horrible time” for a “difficult few years,” and said her career is “effectively” over. Professor Stock, who most recently wrote a book questioning the idea that gender identity is more “socially significant” than biological sex, once stated, “I am definitely not saying that trans women are particularly dangerous – they are definitely not. Most trans people are law abiding and wouldn’t dream of harming anyone. However, many trans women are still males with male genitalia, many are sexually attracted to females, and they should not be in places where females undress or sleep in a completely unrestricted way.”
