Victorian Liberal Party Leader John Pesutto calls party room meeting to consider re-admission of expelled MP Moira Deeming | Sky News Australia

Victorian Opposition Leader John Pesutto has called for a special meeting to possibly re-admit MP Moira Deeming into the Liberal Party more than a year after she was expelled in May 2023.

The backflip was revealed on Sunday as Mr Pesutto apologised to Ms Deeming over the bitter defamation case she won against him.

“Since last Friday’s meeting it has become clear that there is now a definite absolute majority of my colleagues who want this issue resolved,” he said.

The Opposition Leader said her “readmission” to the Liberal Party would allow his colleagues to “collectively put this behind us”.

“I again apologise to Mrs Deeming as we all work together to ensure the Liberal Party succeeds in winning government in November 2026.”

The extraordinary meeting to vote on readmitting Ms Deeming will be held at 10am on Wednesday January 15.

The about-face has come just two days after Mr Pesutto struck down a party room vote to return Ms Deeming to the party on Friday.
