Moira Deeming’s defamation case against John Pesutto is headed to the Federal Court | The Australian

Moira Deeming’s lawyer says he does not believe Victoria’s Opposition Leader, John Pesutto, has been genuine in seeking to resolve his dispute with the expelled Victorian Liberal MP, and she will launch action against him in the Federal Court.

Ms Deeming in July gave the obligatory 28 days’ notice of an intention to file in the Federal Court, and can do so any time after Sunday.
The prospect of a messy public court battle comes as Mr Pesutto faces a leadership test in the form of the Warrandyte by-election on Saturday. While Labor is not contesting the seat, any swing against Liberal candidate Nicole Werner is likely to put pressure on the party leader.
Mr Pesutto initially tried to expel Ms Deeming in March, but was forced to resort to suspending her for nine months amid a lack of support from colleagues.
In seeking to make the case against Ms Deeming, Mr Pesutto circulated a 15-page dossier of social media screenshots and media reports, mostly relating to Ms Keen, accusing the MP of “organising, promoting and participating in a rally with speakers and other organisers who have been publicly associated with far right-wing extremist groups including neo-Nazi activists”.
A letter sent to Ms Deeming by Mr Pesutto’s lawyers in June indicates the Liberal leader stands by this dossier and his original expulsion motion and media statements, which will be key to his “truth” defence.
Ms Deeming has repeatedly called on Mr Pesutto to withdraw allegations she has Nazi links

Calling a transgender woman ‘w***er’ is discrimination because the insult commonly refers to men, tribunal suggests | Daily Mail Online

A London employment tribunal into a bus driver’s dismissal has suggested that calling a trans woman a ‘w***er’ is discrimination because it is an insult commonly used in reference to men.

However, the panel found that she wasn’t discriminated against for being a trans woman after concluding the ‘w***er’ comment hadn’t been made and dismissing her complaint about the near miss.

UK’s first successful womb transplant – key questions answered

[W]hile the procedure may have life-transforming potential for some women, there are ethical considerations to take into account.

Since the first successful womb transplants in 2012, around 100 procedures have now been performed around the world, leading to the birth of around 50 babies. Teams in Sweden and the US have been particularly successful in pioneering the technique.

Womb transplantation involves serious surgery and significant recovery time, but so do many other types of surgery that are designed not to save life, but to enhance its quality. However, most other non-life-saving surgeries do not involve a living donor undergoing a highly invasive procedure with a long recovery period.

There is also some evidence that women who undergo hysterectomy – even where it doesn’t trigger menopause – can experience depression as a result.

Of course, counselling can help warn potential donors about these risks and ensure their consent is well-informed. But it cannot remove risk, and consent alone is not enough to make a procedure ethical.

Another type of safety concern might arise around the supply of wombs for transplantation. There are alarming reports of organ black markets and vulnerable people being trafficked for their organs, including in the UK. Once womb transplantation becomes more widespread, similar concerns might arise in relation to wombs.

Less dramatically, as womb transplantation becomes more commonplace, women might feel under subtle pressure to donate to eligible family members (many of the transplants to date have involved family members). They may even put this pressure on themselves.

The UK’s first womb transplant was not publicly funded: a charity covered some of the £25,000 cost and surgeons donated their time. However, as the procedure becomes more mainstream, there may well be calls to provide it on the NHS, including (when the technique is sufficiently developed) for trans women patients, and this will undoubtedly be controversial.

Conservative peer Lord Goldsmith branded medics at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust ‘barbaric’ and said they should be ‘locked up’ for carrying out procedures akin to ‘lobotomies’.

International Lesbian Day event seeks human rights exemption to exclude trans women

A lesbian community group has applied to the Australian Human Rights Commission for an exemption from anti-discrimination laws to hold an event open only to same-sex attracted, biological women.

The proposed “Lesbians Born Female” event in Melbourne to mark this year’s International Lesbian Day looms as a national test case in the clash between women’s rights and transgender inclusion, with the organisers seeking the right to bar men, straight and bisexual women and transgender women from attending.
In its application to the AHRC, the Lesbian Action Group says exclusively lesbian events have been driven underground by a “repressive and conservative political climate” which leaves women who speak out about lesbian rights exposed to abuse and recriminations.
The group is seeking a five-year exemption from the federal Sex Discrimination Act to hold an event at the Victorian Pride Centre in Melbourne on October 15 and future events which would celebrate lesbian culture and allow “like-minded and like-bodied” women to gather. It says the fear of being labelled as transphobic has eroded lesbian rights.
The newly formed Lesbian Action Group was established by women who were active in the lesbian rights movement in the 1980s and 90s. It is supported by LGB Alliance Australia, the local chapter of a British-based organisation whose promotion of sex-based rights has pushed it into the front line of a rolling gender war.
The author of the application, Carole Ann, is a lesbian and feminist campaigner who 20 years ago unsuccessfully sought an exemption from the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal to allow the continuation of Lesfest, a national lesbian festival and conference which ran for more than a decade.
“It is not anti-trans, it is pro-lesbians who are born female,” she said. “We are not asking for anyone to be denied who they are. It is for us to also be recognised for who we are and have a bit of space for that and acknowledgement that our lived experience is different.”

Former Green deputy sues party after being sacked amid row over his trans views

A former Green deputy leader who is suing the party over his sacking amid a row over his views on transgender issues has accused it of a “fanatical clampdown” on free speech.

Shahrar Ali claims he was discriminated against by the Left-wing group when he was sacked as one of its spokesmen last year amid a row over his gender-critical beliefs.

The first known civil trial of its kind starts on Monday, with Mr Ali and two other individuals thought to be the first paid-up activists to mount legal action against their own side to defend their right to speak freely in the trans debate.

The Green Party removed the 54-year-old as its policing spokesman on February 5, 2022 in the wake of complaints from activists that his tweets about women’s sex-based rights were transphobic.

Mr Ali told the Sunday Times the case represented “a battle for the soul” of the Green Party, adding: “It has completely lost its way. It has become an oppressive space for free speech.

Canadian powerlifter says she REFUSES to compete against trans athletes as biological male sets record – ‘It’s pretty sad’

Canadian powerlifter April Hutchinson has vowed to never compete against trans athletes in a criticism of the “sad affair” of sport.

It comes after trans athlete Ann Andres claimed the gold medal at the Canadian Powerlifting Union’s women’s regional championship earlier this month.

Andres, a 6’2 athlete, lifted 1,327lbs, calculated from the combined weight of squat, bench and deadlift.

The 40-year-old beat her(sic) closest competition by a staggering 470lbs and achieved the second highest deadlift in women’s weightlifting history in the process.

Family Court judge rules dad’s gender non-conformity ‘confused’ kids | The Australian

A Family Court judge has determined that a father’s refusal to conform with traditional gender norms left his three children “confused” and encouraged them to “question their gender identity” after they all began identifying as non-binary, ruling the two youngest children will not be permitted to see their father for an extended period.
The matter regarded the breakdown of a 20-year relationship between a mother and a father, who identifies as male but occasionally wears gender non-conforming clothes, including a dress to his middle child’s first day of school.
Justice Kylie Beckhouse earlier this month ruled the two youngest children, known pseudonymously as Riley, 8, and Taylor, 13, will not be allowed to see their father for the next four months, after which period they will spend time with him on Sundays.
The eldest child, Jamie, 16, who is taking puberty blockers and wishes to undergo a mastectomy once he completes his HSC, will live with both parents in accordance with his wishes.
In making the orders, Justice Beckhouse said the father’s “right to self-expression is not a reflection or criticism of his parenting capacity”.
“However,” she continued, “it is possible that raising the children without adopting societal gender norms and expectations has led them to be confused and question their gender identity.”
The case comes as the Family Court continues to grapple with the complexities of gender identity, especially in the context of children, medication and surgery.
Last month, the mother of a 13-year-old with gender dysphoria abruptly withdrew an application seeking a Family Court order to allow the child to take puberty blockers, after trying to have the independent children’s lawyer assigned to the matter thrown off the case.
In May, Family Court judges were presented with a legal paper from a top barrister arguing the court must reassess how scientific advancements should apply to the family law system.

The trans movement is a lie – By Meghan Murphy| Kara Dansky’s Substack

My name is Meghan Murphy, and I’m going to tell you the truth. I am going to tell you the truth about this movement – the transgender movement. About what it is and what it is not.

This is not a human rights movement. It is not about protecting a marginalized population of people. It is not about letting people be themselves. It is not about breaking the “gender binary.” This is certainly not about protecting kids. It’s not about “letting people pee.”

What the trans movement is is a misogynistic movement started by men who believe women are nothing more than a collection of parts and stereotypes. That women are nothing more than objects for their taking. Nothing more than a sexualized idea – a fetish.

This is not a grassroots movement. This is a corporate endeavour, started by wealthy men invested in Big Pharma and biotech and their own narcissistic fantasies. It is a movement that tells kids that if they don’t fit into rigid gender stereotypes their bodies are “wrong” and must be “fixed” through medical interventions that render them sterile and leave their bodies permanently mutilated, with a host of health problems — medicalized for life. It is a movement that tells women they must sit down and shut up, even if they’re in danger, even if they see kids in danger, even they are subjected to verbal abuse or threats, even if their rights are in jeopardy, even if they know they are being lied to.

It is a movement that says the truth is hate.

This is not a feminist movement. This is not about inclusion or love. This is an anti-woman hate movement that is destroying kids lives and all of the sex-based rights countless women have fought for for well over a century.
